'Sense8' cancelled on Netflix

Chicago, IL — The hit series Sense8 is reportedly getting cancelled after two seasons on Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service confirmed Thursday that it would not be moving forward with the sci-fi drama from The Wachowskis.

Lilly and Lana Wachowski are siblings born in Chicago, and both are trans women. Known collectively as The Wachowskis (formerly as The Wachowski Brothers), the pair reached fame with The Matrix in 1999

Kinowerks Studios is their pre- and post-production and effects studio, based in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago.

In 2014, Equality Illinois presented Lana with the Freedom Award. Both siblings have contributed to the work of Chicago House's TransLife Center.

"It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kickass and outright unforgettable," said Cindy Holland, Netflix's vp original content. "Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world."

Sense8's cancellation may be a sign of things to come. CEO Reed Hastings told CNBC at the Code Conference that the streaming service needs to take more risk, and that it should have a higher cancellation rate.
