Eating Out in Puerto Vallarta

Eating Out in Puerto Vallarta
Popular Pacific Coast's vacation destination Puerto Vallarta offers more than just typical seafood. There are some delicious restaurants to try while having fun in the sun.

One that many recommended was La Palapa named after the Spanish word for thatched roof beach hut. It sits right on the beach with tables available to the water's edge. There is a romantic feel to the area with mariachi that serenade you at your table.

As far as appetizers try the shrimp ceviche or the scallops. The short ribs were really filling in a sweet sauce. The made a fire drink tableside that everyone enjoyed and make sure to head there at sunset to take it all in.

While the service was a little overwhelmed with the volume of guests, the atmosphere made up for it.

Azafran is located conveniently on the corner of Olas Altas in Zona Romantica. There is a plenty of people watching available as tourists roam through the outdoor space on their way to the bustling surrounding area.

The Chef's Special there presents a starter, main course, and dessert for a reasonable price.

The beefsteak tartare is a superb way to begin then head into the fish with ratatouille and saffron. I love a good chocolate lava cake so make sure to sample that while there. The service was perfectly timed along with the dishes that led to a satisfying experience overall.

For lunch there is no other beach experience quite like Sapphire. The servers are a feast for the eyes and very friendly. The food is elevated beach food with the club sandwich a must try item. Snack on some guacamole before taking a dip in the pool near the tables.

Just entering the place will make one feel like they are on vacation in this dreamlike hot spot.

For brunch try Taste Restaurant at Casa Cupula. It is a bit hidden away but worth the hike. An iguana lounged in the tree next to the balcony and I can see why. The buffet had not only standard brunch options but lots more to choose from. Items made to order included some of the best French toast I have ever had. It was super sweet, though so save it until the end.

Pace yourself as it is easy to overdo it after a Bloody Mary or mimosa.

Last but not least is Restaurant Gaby's with a bird's eye view and a knowledgeable owner who takes pride in her work.

Authentic Mexican food is offered in a place that's been around since 1989. Work off that dinner with those steps that lead down to a busy sidewalk.

The open air patio will make diners relax for many more years to come.

For a quick bite I tried Derby City Burgers and was not disappointed. The servers were on top of it and the milkshake hit the spot!

These are just a few places to try while visiting Puerto Vallarta with many more to explore in the future. Don't be overwhelmed, take your time, Speedy Gonzalez!
